Ascension Day

Today is Ascension Day.  It is the 40th day after Easter and is an important religious holiday especially celebrated by the Amish and Mennonites in our area.

After I saw everyone off to work, I sat on my back porch and read a devotional and my Bible.

We have a honeysuckle vine growing over the fence near my back porch and the morning air was filled with it's scent.

I opened my Amplified Bible and read Isaiah 60:1
"Arise  [ from the depression and prostration in which circumstances have kept you--rise to a new life! ]   Shine (be radiant with the glory of the Lord),  for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has, risen upon you!"

  3. Ooo, honeysuckle! I haven't smelled them since I was in my early 20's. We had a bunch growing in a hedgerow where I grew up. I liked the taste of them too. You pull out the stamen carefully and get a drop of "honey" when it comes of out the flower through the back, not through the bloom.

I forgot about Ascension Day and went to get eggs, only to find that they were closed for Ascension Day, as the company is owned and operated by Mennonite people. So, I guess I'll go and get my eggs tomorrow.
